Improvements to Road Design by Examining Tire Contact Pressure Areas
by Andres Peralta, P.E., on October 25, 2023
When constructing over soft, unstable soil, the Lees Approach to Applied Mechanical Stabilization (LAAMS) can be used to design roads and other infrastructure more efficiently, reducing costs, risks and environmental impacts.
LAAMS can better characterize the effects of different parameters used in other design methods. One such parameter is tire contact pressure which is widely used in multiple design methods but has been poorly characterized. In this short video, Dr. Andrew Lees explores how LAAMS handles this parameter and applies its effects to the design.
