Corsicana Airport
2022
Corsicana Airport uses Tensar's GlasGrid to rehabilitate one of its taxiways.
- General Contractor: Texas Materials
- Engineer: Garver
- Installer: Industrial Fabrics, Inc.
- Owner/Developer: TXDOT Aviation
The main runway, taxiway and apron areas of the Corsicana Airport was experiencing reflective cracking and needed repair. This airport is considered a critical stopping and refuling point for small/private aircraft. With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, the pavements had to be completed in time since the airport was required to be open for the holiday travel rush.
This TXDOT Aviation project used the TXDOT Special Specification 3057 Reinforcement Grid for Asphalt Pavement. Tensar and Adfors, the manufacturer of GlasGrid pavement interlayers, had to turn product around quickly to accommodate the critical timeline. Product installer Industrial Fabrics, Inc. coordinated with the general contractor and used multiple install units to lay down GlasGrid 8511 in twice the time. Texas Materials milled 3”, installed a 1” level-up of Type D HMA and then Industrial Fabrics laid GlasGrid 8511 with Jebro Hot Applied Track Free tack on top. Then, 2” of Type D HMA was laid on top of the grid.
The runway was completed two days before Thanksgiving and the taxiways and aprons were completed the following week. Garver Engineering, along with airport officials, were very impressed with the quality and speed of the project and will be using GlasGrid interlayers on future airport projects.
