Client's Challenge

The historic runway was originally built in 1942 for WWII and began operation in 1943. In 1947 it was given to the city/county and in 1969, the Florida State Legislature created the City of Naples Aiport Authority. In 2010, the Naples Municipal Airport (APF) detected deep reflective cracks on the runway and knew it was in need of serious repair. It also earned a low pavement condition index score. They needed a long-lasting solution that could withstand the hot Florida climate and the dated base material.

Tensar Solution

After considering the results, GlasGrid 8511 was incorporated into the pavement section to decrease future reflective cracking and extend pavement life. The high tensile strength also helped the pavement handle the extreme thermal conditions. The site was revisted nearly 13 years after the installation. Upon visual inspection the runway pavement was still performing well.
