The leading global provider of geogrid stabilizing solutions, Tensar International Corporation, has appointed Don Herbert as Industry Market Manager, Rail, to oversee and grow its rail business in North and South America. Don brings nearly three decades of expertise from his distinguished career in sales, engineering, and director roles at Contech Engineered Solutions. In his 28 years with Contech, Don moved across the country to deliver site solutions and products for drainage, bridge, and tunneling projects, with the last seven years focused exclusively within the rail market – which became his passion.
Don completed his undergraduate coursework in civil engineering at Manhattan College in New York and his master’s degree at Texas A&M. For the first decade of his career with Contech – which at the time served as a national distributor of Tensar products – Don sold the company’s proprietary geogrid solutions for roadway and commercial products. Years later, when Tensar expanded its focus to provide stabilizing materials for rail infrastructure, Don recognized the unique opportunity to pursue the next step of his career in the rail industry by joining the respected brand and relocating his family to its global headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
Throughout his career, Don has followed the evolving use of stabilizing materials in rail infrastructure to decrease movement and settlement of track cross sections and increase maintenance cycles. He’s seen the successful application of ballast and sub-ballast stabilization in high speed rail in Asia and is committed to bringing the same innovative technology to the western hemisphere. As the new Rail Industry Market Manager for Tensar, Don is excited to play an integral role in the transformation of the rail industry.
Don has been married for 26 years and has three children. He enjoys sports, hiking, and camping, and he has recently gotten into hunting with his sons.
