Military

Rapid & trustworthy solutions for your operational needs

Design and construction for military use have a rich history that serves as a driver for many tourist destinations. Military engineering is one of the oldest of the engineering skills and is considered the precursor of the civil engineering profession.

Military construction can encompass a wide variety of temporary and permanent project types, from hospitals to fortifications to battlefield sites to airfields. In many military operations – particularly construction – speed is of the essence, and trustworthy vendors are critical.

With wide-ranging experience in military and civilian construction projects worldwide, Tensar is a strong and reliable partner. Both in the field and at base, our geogrid technology combines practical, effective solutions with the use of local materials for rapid response to any situation. Our experienced team of civil engineers can also provide expert advice, specifications, drawings, certified designs and details of pricing. Specific engineering services are available by contract.

Working Platforms & Foundations

Tensar specializes in ground stabilization over weak or soft ground. Our geogrid technology has been used to construct military facilities and can help minimize construction time and maximize the use of local materials. These include constructing new runways, landing areas, access roads, buildings/facilities, and more.

Better Foundation Support

Pavements

Frequent heavy traffic loading from large aircraft, vehicles, and equipment can cause accelerated deformation or rutting of an unstabilized section, both to the base layer and the subgrade. Tensar geogrids can improve the long-term performance of paved surfaces by minimizing aggregate movement and maintaining modulus values.

Higher Performance Pavements

Pavement Maintenance

Conventional pavement maintenance strategies specify placing an asphalt overlay over the existing rigid or flexible pavement. For each inch of applied overlay, existing cracks are generally deterred from reflecting to the surface by one year. Although some additional service life is gained, it’s only a temporary fix. Hot-mix asphalt (HMA) pavement reinforcement, like Tensar’s GlasGrid® system and GlasPave® paving mats, adds tensile strength to the pavements and is proven to dramatically increase the life of overlays.

Reduce Pavement Maintenance

Walls & Slopes

Since not all military sites are built on level flat land, retaining wall or slope reinforcement solutions may be necessary, especially for sites in mountainous terrains or marine areas. Conventional solutions, including cast-in-place concrete walls and sunken pilings, can be costly, difficult to stage, time-consuming, and labor-intensive. With complete systems featuring our uniaxial geogrid, Tensar’s single-source grade separation solutions offer the cost advantages of a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining wall without the consequences of complex wall systems from multiple vendors.

Marine

Whether river, lake, or sea, construction at the water’s edge can present unique problems. But by using Tensar’s geogrids, erosion products, and wall/slope systems, engineers can specify reliable, flexible, and environmentally-sound flood defenses – that can cut costs and time by as much as half compared to traditional methods.
