Township receives significant time and cost savings with Tensar® InterAx™ geogrid solution.
- Owner: Hamilton Township
- Contractor: Township Roads Crew
A gravel road in Hamilton Township, Ontario, needed repair with school buses, garbage trucks, and local vehicle traffic experiencing poor riding conditions on the road. DCP testing showed soft areas underneath the road, with CBR values as low as 1.9%. The township's original plan was to excavate 600mm of poor subgrade, place a woven fabric, and backfill with new aggregate.
Tensar provided the township with a range of solutions showing a comparison of different sections. These options included designs using geotextile fabric, biaxial geogrid, TriAx™ geogrid, and Tensar's new InterAx geogrid. The option using Tensar NX750 InterAx geogrid was chosen because it required the least amount of excavation. Using NX750 allowed the township to complete construction in half the time while saving 40% of cost compared with the original design.
