Colombo International Financial City (Port City)
Lasting reinforcement for marine environment
Modular block wall was used for four bridge approaches with a maximum height of 8 meters on reclaimed land for the brand new city development, Port City Colombo. This is an extension of the central business district of Colombo that offers city living along the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.
Benefits:
- Resilient system in tolerating ground settlement over reclaimed land
- High tolerance against marine environment
- Reliable system that consistently performs its intended function
The client expressed a requirement for the walls to be constructed on reclaimed land, emphasizing the concern for potential settlement despite prior soil improvement measures. Additionally, given the proximity to the sea, the client sought a corrosion and chemical-resistant system that adhered to budgetary constraints.
Tensar suggested using the modular block wall system, which fulfilled the client’s requirements whilst keeping the construction cost within budget. A single-tiered reinforced soil wall was introduced to the customer. It represented an excellent system that met the client’s requirements, as modular blocks have a higher tolerance against differential settlement compared to a rigid facing wall.
