Public Roads, Municipal Roadways & Highways
Helping municipalities stretch asphalt maintenance budgets further
Municipalities are assigned the monumental task of building and maintaining the roadways of their communities. However, the list of maintenance and improvement needs often exceeds capital and maintenance budgets. With material/labor costs constantly rising and the scope of their responsibilities consistently growing, how do municipalities keep up?
What if you could design higher-performing public roads and community pavements without increasing costs? Or, what if you could extend pavement service life by up to 200%? Spending less of your budget on pavements means you have more funds for other community-enhancing projects. Tensar has been helping municipalities stretch pavement dollars further for public roads and highways by using our proven geogrid technology and our industry-leading hot mix asphalt (HMA) reinforcing interlayers for stabilization.
Pavements
Pavement designers choose Tensar geogrid to improve the performance of pavement by minimizing aggregate movement within the pavement section and improving and maintaining stiffness. By creating a stiffer aggregate layer, pavements can be designed to deliver the same or better performance to fit your budget.
Subgrade Stabilization
Pavement performance relies on what’s below the surface. Over time, traffic loads will cause deformation/rutting of an unstabilized section to both the base layer and the subgrade. Tensar geogrids can improve the long-term performance of paved and unpaved roadways by minimizing aggregate movement and maintaining modulus values. Pavement Maintenance
Conventional pavement maintenance strategies specify placing an asphalt overlay over the existing rigid or flexible pavement. For each inch of applied overlay, existing cracks are generally deterred from reflecting to the surface by one year. Although some additional service life is gained, it’s only a temporary fix. Hot-mix asphalt pavement reinforcement, like Tensar’s GlasGrid® system and GlasPave® paving mats, adds tensile strength to the pavements and is proven to dramatically increase the life of overlays.Conventional pavement maintenance strategies specify placing an asphalt overlay over the existing rigid or flexible pavement. Walls & Slopes
Many highway projects involve building walls, road embankments, bridge abutments, and other features. DOTs, contractors, and engineers have long appreciated the many advantages of Tensar mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) solutions. With complete systems featuring our uniaxial geogrid, these solutions offer the cost advantages of an MSE retaining wall without the long-term consequences of exposure to “hot” soils or stray electrical current potential.
Resiliency
In the face of unpredictable climate conditions in the coming years, public roads need predictably powerful underpinnings -- resilient foundations that allow our thoroughfares to perform well over long time spans regardless of treacherous environmental conditions. Tensar geogrids enable resiliency by stabilizing the aggregate layer, not only remaining stiff but becoming stiffer over time. The performance of Tensar geogrids has been tested and proven over 50 years to stabilize and support roads, no matter what disasters may strike.
